         GETTING WELL
You’ve likely heard by now that the coronavirus crisis has accelerated many of the
trends that were already taking hold in commercial real estate. Arguably,
the biggest example is in the industrial
market, where the increased reliance on e-commerce has only added to the demand for new construction.
Our latest issue highlights another trend that is now poised to pick
up steam, also in the warehouse
and logistics sector. In our August cover story, we detail how the
race to attract quality labor has led industrial users to focus increasingly on employee wellness, resulting
in buildings with features such as larger windows, walking trails and fitness centers. Experts say these
n
continued expansion with several high-profile developments.
Our August issue also showcases developments in two important municipalities. The first, in Elizabeth, will bring 267 upscale apartments
and 36,000 square feet of commercial space to a site that has been vacant for three decades, potentially sparking a revival around the city’s main train station. In Morristown, SJP Properties and Scotto Properties will likely break ground in the coming
months on a development that will deliver 340,000 square feet of high- end office space and new public plazas to the downtown.
You can find those stories and more in our latest issue. I should note that the idea for our cover story and much of my reporting on wellness in industrial buildings came from NAIOP’s I.CON Virtual program in late June, which covered the subject across multiple panel discussions.
It was one of several great topics that the conference highlighted, making for another strong event despite the need to host it from a distance. It’s also another reminder of how the industry has managed to still bring people together and
produce quality content despite
the current circumstances. I know many of you are longing for the days of large crowds, friendly faces and networking opportunities,
but at least we still have these opportunities to stay connected. Kudos to NAIOP and all of the other groups that have adapted over these last five months.
Until next month, stay safe and please continue to reach out with your feedback, questions or story ideas. Thanks for reading and enjoy the issue!

Elsewhere in this edition, we catch up with executives at Duke Realty Corp. to discuss the company’s growth in New Jersey. Based in Indianapolis, the real estate investment trust has built its Garden State portfolio to nearly 8 million square feet as part
of a pronounced push over the past five years. The result is a collection of modern buildings, with a roster of well-known tenants and locations along the busy New Jersey Turnpike corridor, and the company is eyeing
