THE GARIBALDI GROUP MOURNS LONGTIME CEO JIM GARIBALDI
Garibaldi III, in 1997 and would remain in the post until summer 2020, the firm said. Aside from leading the company’s growth, he focused on community service as a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Jersey, The Cancer Hope Network and the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, having also served for many years as a eucharistic minister at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Chatham.
Additionally, Garibaldi was a
trustee and member of Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit and a member of the Mid Ocean Club in Hamilton, Bermuda, the obituary said.
“He was a great brother and business partner,” company
CEO Jeff Garibaldi wrote in an announcement to friends and colleagues in the industry. “He loved golf, going to baseball games and concerts. And he was someone you could always have a genuine conversation with about life. He was always there to listen. We will dearly miss him.”
Jim Garibaldi leaves behind Aggie, his wife for nearly 50 years, as
well as daughters Emily Deuchler and Meredith Molloy and their respective husbands, David Deuchler and Timothy Molloy. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
James J. Garibaldi, a prominent commercial real estate broker in New Jersey who spent 23 years as CEO of The Garibaldi Group in Chatham, has died at age 72.
Garibaldi, known throughout the industry as Jim, had a career that
partner, Jay Garibaldi, in early September.
“Whether in business or in life, my uncle led with compassion,” said Jeffrey Garibaldi Jr., president of The Garibaldi Group. “In times of stress or hardship, he focused on ways to heal the ills he observed through taking action. He was a big man who made a big impact, both in the world of real estate, as well as with the people who were lucky enough to know and love him. He will forever be missed.”
Born in West Orange to Joseph
and Clare Garibaldi, Jim Garibaldi was raised in Short Hills and graduated from Xavier High School in Manhattan, according to an obituary. He earned his bachelor’s in political science from Scranton University and went on to join
the family business, starting his multidecade career at what is now a fourth-generation firm.

spanned more than 50 years at the firm started by his grandfather
in 1919. He
is the former president of the multimarket network of
independently owned brokerage firms known as CORFAC International, among other accomplishments, having also executed Investors Bank’s original lease in 2004 for more than 56,000 square feet at 101 John F. Kennedy Parkway in the Short Hills section of Millburn.
His passing on Nov. 22 followed the death of his brother and longtime
JEREMY FARRELL, KEY FIGURE FOR LEFRAK AND JERSEY CITY, DIES AT 44
The LeFrak Organization is mourn- ing the loss of Jeremy Farrell, a key executive with the real estate firm and the former corporation counsel for Jersey City.
The company announced Dec. 5 that Farrell died suddenly at age 44. A prominent
figure with the
organization,
he was the
firm’s special
counsel and
senior manag-
ing director of
community and
government af-
fairs, often serving as the face of
its development activities in Jersey City’s landmark Newport district and elsewhere.
He joined LeFrak in 2018.
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Jeremy Farrell,” said Richard LeFrak, chair- man and CEO of the LeFrak Orga- nization. “Jeremy was a cherished member of our team and a corner- stone in the community at large, and he leaves an important legacy in Newport and Jersey City. My deepest condolences go to Jeremy’s family during this unimaginably difficult time.”
LeFrak said that, in his more than five years with the firm, Farrell was devoted to serving his community and worked hand in hand with the city of Jersey City on vital public initiatives, including the installation of Water’s Soul, a major public art
sculpture on the Newport water- front. Prior to joining the company, he held roles including executive director of the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority and corporation counsel under Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.
Before entering the public sector, Farrell was an attorney at McEl- roy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpen- ter LLP. He began his career as a judicial clerk at the United States District Court.
“Jeremy Farrell was the rarest of human beings: incredibly smart
and kind, yet firm and respected by all of his colleagues,” said Jamie LeFrak, vice chairman and manag- ing director of LeFrak. “He was a beloved mentor to all those who had the honor of working with him. For Newport and the LeFrak family, Jer- emy’s passing is one we will mourn forever. He will be missed more than words can express.”
LeFrak said Farrell’s death will not only have a profound impact within the company, but throughout the Newport and Jersey City, where he was well-known. He is survived by his wife Sarah and son Aidan, the company said, while asking that his family’s privacy be respected as it grieves.
