“We are delighted to welcome Jennifer to the firm and to our global real estate practice,” said Matt Norton, a leader of K&L Gates’ global real estate practice. “Her real estate and construction experience, particularly in land use law, are a welcomed addition to our practice area and will be a great asset to
our clients both in New Jersey and firmwide.”
Mazawey, for her part, said
she expects to augment her long-established land use and redevelopment practice with traditional transactional real estate matters, including leasing. K&L Gates in mid-November also cited her extensive experience
in education law, noting that she
has served as counsel to boards of education and trustees throughout New Jersey, advising on areas such as board governance, labor relations, special education and school construction.
“Their reputation is fantastic, and they are a global firm, so I think
this presented a really wonderful evolution for my practice,” Mazawey said. “The idea that my practice could really blossom and be expanded so much from a firm with a platform like K&L is very appealing.”
The move by K&L follows the arrivals of real estate partners Larry Woodard in Chicago and Jennifer McCosker in Sydney earlier in 2023, the firm said in a news release.
Its Newark team also welcomed government contracts partner Rebecca Moll Freed in July.

Lewis Zlotnick, Woodmont Properties’ longtime president, is shifting to a new role as executive vice president of the firm’s growing Florida division, in a move that comes alongside a key promotion on its executive team.
Zlotnick, who joined Woodmont in 1992, was slated to assume the new role effective Jan. 1. In the process, the Fairfield-based developer has promoted Chief Financial Officer Daniel Miller to chief operating officer, noting that he will assume Zlotnick’s responsibilities.
“Over the past 32 years, I have

and operations and will oversee the construction, property management, marketing, information technology and human resources divisions.
“Lewis’ legacy of leadership and
team building, disciplined and relentless approach to execution, measured decision making and overall passion for success has benefited

MAZAWEY MOVES TO
K&L GATES
Prominent land use and real estate attorney Jennifer Mazawey has joined K&L Gates LLP as a partner in the global law firm’s Newark office.
The veteran New Jersey lawyer, who most recently spent more than two decades with Genova Burns LLC, arrives with a practice focused on representing clients in various phases of the development process, often appearing before planning and zoning boards. She also aids owners and builders in acquiring local and state incentives to help fund their projects, while assisting them with permit acquisitions and interfacing with state and federal regulatory agencies.
Mazawey is an active member of the
a newly branded redevelopment, land use
and zoning group. Veteran redevelopment attorneys Lisa A. John-Basta and Thomas J. Trautner Jr. will

the firm’s continued growth in the industry and commitment to fulfilling the evolving needs of its extensive
real estate client base, according to a news release. Central to the real estate team’s strengths are its deep industry knowledge and decades of experience navigating the intersection between public and private sectors.
In announcing the moves, the firm noted that John-Basta co-authors New Jersey Zoning & Land Use Administration, the pre-eminent treatise on land use and zoning in the state, published by Gann Law Books.
