Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C.’s tax department clients include commercial real estate property owners, developers, management companies, financial institutions, REITs, hospitals, universities, religious institutions, private equity firms and insurance companies.
ON THE HORIZON
Due to the increase in interest rates, and compression in capitalization rates, we expect significant growth
in our commercial property tax appeal practice. We anticipate meritorious appeals in all asset classes, including continuing strength in office, retail and hotel appeals, as well as renewed opportunities in the multifamily and industrial sectors.
We also expect continued growth in our tax appeal defense practice, where we represent our clients in defense against tax appeals filed by municipalities who are seeking increases in our clients’ commercial property tax assessments. Our tax department is currently challenging the constitutionality of these cases, both under the Uniformity Clause of the New Jersey Constitution, and the Equal Protection clause of the United States Constitution.

TRANSACTION SPOTLIGHT
Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C. recently negotiated the settlement of a multiyear tax appeal of a large full- service hotel in Northern New Jersey. The settlement reduced the assessment from approximately $180 million to $100 million, achieving in excess of $5.6 million in property tax savings.
