A local seafood restaurant and a U.S. Army recruiting center will be among the newest retail tenants at a hotel next to the Prudential Center in Newark, according to JLL.
The real estate services firm said it represented an affiliate of Tucker Development Corp., the owner of the Courtyard by Marriott Newark Downtown, in leases with Just Beclaws and the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. The users took 5,318 square feet and 3,500 square feet, respectively, at the base of the hotel at 858 Broad St.
JLL Senior Vice President Marta Villa and Associate Blake Shanaphy represented ownership. Charles Du with Century 21 Main Street Realty represented Just Beclaws, while The U.S. Army Recruiting Command was represented in-house by the Tucker affiliate.
“Newark’s resurgence continues to enhance the city’s reputation in the eyes of retailers from around the state and the nation,” Villa said. “We are seeing increased leasing velocity in downtown Newark up and down Broad Street.”
Completed in 2012, the 150-room property was the first new hotel built in downtown Newark in more than 30 years. The hotel is connected to the Prudential Center and includes 15,000 square feet of retail space.
Just Beclaws signed a five-year lease for more than a third of that space and will occupy a ground-floor location at the northeast corner of the intersection of Lafayette and Broad streets, JLL said. The Jersey City-based restaurant is opening its second location in New Jersey at the site.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Command, which also inked a five-year lease, will occupy a ground-floor location at the southeast side of the hotel.
