Virtua Medical Group has opened its doors at a new location in Burlington County, where it is serving as the anchor in a mixed-use, $70 million redevelopment of a former shopping center.
The developer, RD Management LLC, said the nonprofit health care system has completed its move into the property in the Marlton section of Evesham. Its new home is a 32,568-square-foot space along Route 70, between Plymouth Road and North Locust Avenue, within a complex known as The Shoppes and Residences at Renaissance Square.
Virtua’s services at the location include medical and surgical practices that provide primary care and pulmonary care, RD Management said in a news release. The space also houses The Virtua Surgical Group, physical therapy and laboratory services.
“This beautiful new location will enable Virtua Medical Group to enhance the community’s access to high-quality health care close to home,” said Rebecca D. Lynch, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Virtua Medical Group. “Patients will be able to see a range of board-certified primary-care physicians and specialists — including pulmonologists and surgeons — at this state-of-the-art center.”
The space is part of a nearly 585,000-square-foot project that calls for 338 luxury apartments, along with retail, restaurants, medical, office and commercial space. The New York-based RD Management is revitalizing the site of the former Tri-Towne Plaza, a decades-old property that was once anchored by Kmart and then Sears, but later became the target for redevelopment by local officials.
In addition to Virtua and an existing TD Bank, other tenants that have committed to the complex include Gaetano’s Pizzeria & Cheesesteaks, Pink Petal Mani Pedi and several other retailers and eateries, the news release said. The portion of the property that faces Route 70 will be converted into an open space and park offering new jogging paths, walkways and a pond.
“The opening of Virtua Medical Group signals the beginning of the next phase of redevelopment at The Shoppes and Residences at Renaissance Square,” said Richard Birdoff, principal and president of RD Management. “As businesses open doors, we’re bringing to life our plan for a mixed-use destination that gives locals a new place to live, work and play.
“More importantly, Virtua will offer the top-notch services and care South Jersey residents have been waiting for, and we’re proud to have their business in our center.”
Virtua Medical Group is a network of 502 physicians, surgeons and clinicians exclusively affiliated with Virtua, one of New Jersey’s largest nonprofit health systems, the news release said. There are more than 90 Virtua Medical Group practices throughout the region and range from primary care to complex medical and surgical facilities.
