Now in its 22nd year, the 2018 Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development takes place October 2-3 at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City with over 100 dynamic speakers and a special keynote address by Governor Murphy.
There are some exciting additions to this year’s conference agenda. Kicking off the event will be a pre-conference Housing and Economic Development Hall of Fame Award Reception on October 1 to recognize a pioneer in the housing and economic development field.
A welcoming plenary session led by Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), will include the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) and New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA), and will focus on Governor Murphy’s priority to put New Jersey on the path to a stronger and fairer economy and what role redevelopment, housing and economic growth will play.
This year, a track on the Fair Housing Act will join five other discussion topics ranging from community and economic development to property management and more. Attendees will gain insights on the Opportunity Zones program, the competition for Amazon, redeveloping without displacing, promoting mixed-income communities, regional redevelopment and developing affordable housing units, among other timely topics.
Among the 100+ distinguished businesses, economic development, and housing professionals speaking will be a CEO who led the creation of over 200,000 permanent stable homes for individuals and families; an immigrant to the U.S. who is now a successful entrepreneur and developer; a champion and representative for economic empowerment and social responsibility; and key mayors dedicated to downtown revitalization.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to join an Atlantic City Bus Tour to see firsthand the exciting examples of business and neighborhood revitalization efforts being made in the city.
Closing the conference will be the annual Housing and Economic Development Awards Brunch where conference hosts DCA, NJHMFA and EDA will recognize the most outstanding housing and economic development projects and partnerships throughout New Jersey. The winning categories this year are Leading Housing Development, Leading Supportive Housing Development, and Leading Economic Development Partnership.
Other conference highlights include a networking reception and a trade show featuring products and services from businesses and organizations that serve the housing and property management community.
