One of the state’s top organizations for smart growth and planning advocacy is set to honor its longtime chair and the former director of Monmouth University’s Kislak Real Estate Institute.

New Jersey Future, the Trenton-based nonprofit and nonpartisan group, will present Peter Reinhart with its Cary Edwards Leadership Award. The organization said it was recognizing Reinhart for his decades of service and commitment to fair and affordable housing and bridging real estate development and smart growth, along with his years of leadership on progressive land use policy and with its board of trustees.
Reinhart, a popular and well-connected figure in the commercial real estate industry, will headline this year’s Smart Growth Awards event on Tuesday, Dec. 15, which is being held virtually this year. He recently retired from Monmouth’s Kislak Institute after nearly a decade as its director and previously spent more than 30 years at Hovnanian Enterprises Inc., most recently as its senior vice president and general counsel.
“Peter not only epitomizes the forward thinking and balanced approach to development that we value, but he brought a critical blend of strategic thinker and practical, action-oriented doer,” said Peter Kasabach, New Jersey Future’s executive director. “As chair of New Jersey Future’s board of trustees, he helped guide us past Superstorm Sandy to having one of the first major events after the storm — looking at how we need to do things differently in New Jersey. His numerous contributions to the worlds of real estate and land use planning have made New Jersey a better place for us all.”
