TFE Properties LLC has purchased a former bank building in downtown Westfield that in recent years has been home to an Urban Outfitters store, the firm announced.

Located at 154 East Broad St., the three-story structure is home to more than 12,000 square feet of shoppable space in the heart of the central business district. TFE noted that the former vault, which dates to 1922, and safety deposit rooms were converted to fitting rooms and a sales area, while the space includes ceiling cornices, extensive woodwork, a chandelier, a fireplace and a new steel staircase suspended below a pre-existing oculus and skylight.

The East Windsor-based real estate firm purchased the property from an undisclosed buyer. Terms were not disclosed.

“This building’s unique features, as well as its prominent location in the trendy town of Westfield, New Jersey, made it an excellent strategic investment for our company,” said Carey Tajfel, president of TFE Properties. The firm added that the site earned Urban Outfitters’ Store of the Year Award in 2012, while it is steps from NJ Transit’s Westfield station, other national retailers and local eateries and boutiques.
