Construction is underway on a project that will bring more than 155,000 square feet of new industrial space to Piscataway while revitalizing a former office property.
Its developer, IDI Logistics, visited the site last week to break ground on the facility at 1551 South Washington Ave. That puts it on pace to deliver the 155,272-square-foot project in October 2026, as the Atlanta-based firm looks to tap into the robust Interstate 287 submarket.
CBRE is spearheading leasing at the property.
“This groundbreaking represents an exciting milestone for our team and our continued investment in high-quality logistics facilities in central New Jersey,” said Justin Burns, market officer for IDI Logistics. “Piscataway offers exceptional connectivity and access to key infrastructure, making this an ideal location for tenants seeking efficient regional and super-regional distribution. We’re proud to bring a best-in-class facility to one of the strongest industrial submarkets in the region.”
The groundbreaking — which included Burns, IDI Co-Head of Development Rob Fischer and Director of Development Matt DiMarco — follows the firm’s acquisition of the property in 2022. It razed the existing office building last summer, clearing the way for a new warehouse that will cater to today’s logistics users, with some 400 feet of highway frontage along I-287
Would-be tenants will be less than 10 miles from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 10 and 25 miles from Port Newark-Elizabeth, while benefiting from the site’s 30-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement with the township. The developer also said it was pursuing silver certification on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and environmentally responsible development.
