A nationwide upscale thrift franchise is opening its first New Jersey location in Woodland Park.
Uptown Cheapskate is coming to a 7,062-square-foot space in West Falls Plaza at 1730 Route 46, according to a news release. On its website, the trendy fashion resale company says it operates more than 160 locations in 29 states.
Re-Find Collective LLC, operated by Nancy Mair and Stacy LaFontant and represented by Katz & Associates’ Amy Staats, signed the lease with Shane Wierks of Jeffery Realty, representing the landlord, according to the release.
“This lease is a great fit, and I’m so glad to work with Re-Find Collective to make it happen,” said Staats, a vice president with Katz & Associates. “Uptown Cheapskate resonates with consumers, and West Fells Plaza offers outstanding visibility, accessibility and parking. Together, these qualities make it an ideal location to introduce Uptown Cheapskate to New Jersey.”
Mair and LaFontant said in the release: “Opening (New Jersey’s) first Uptown Cheapskate is incredibly exciting for us. Working with Amy Staats was amazing, and in return we have this incredible location that checked all our boxes. We aren’t just opening a retail store, we are creating a place where people can discover amazing fashion, shop more sustainable and feel connected to the community. We have already experienced a warm welcome from the township and our neighboring businesses and look forward to being a part of the Woodland Park community.”
Upscale Cheapskate is owned by parent company BaseCamp Franchising, which also operates Kid to Kid, featuring resale children’s clothes, toys and gear. The two franchises have 270 stores open and another 50-plus under development, according to the release.
West Falls Plaza’s other tenants include World Market, Planet Fitness, Starbucks and Auto Zone. The property, which came under new ownership in 2023, is nearly 91,000 square feet on 8.3 acres. It’s located near Interstate 80, the Garden State Parkway and Interstate 287, putting it squarely in the Passaic Route 46/23 retail submarket along with Kohl’s, Barnes & Noble and Willowbrook Mall.
Uptown Cheapskate and Kid to Kid are searching for additional New Jersey locations of 3,000 to 6,000 square feet, or up to 10,000 square feet for co-located stores featuring both concepts, Katz said.
