Barnes & Noble has leased 15,000 square feet in Union Township as part of a move from nearby Springfield, brokers with The Goldstein Group announced Monday.
The bookseller’s new space will be at 2401 Route 22 West, at the Union Plaza Shopping Center, where it joins anchor tenants ShopRite, Best Buy, DSW, Unique and Marshalls, plus other national retailers, according to a news release. It’s relocating from 240 Route 22.
“We are pleased to represent Barnes & Noble in their efforts to open new store locations as well as repositioning their existing stores in New Jersey,” said Chuck Lanyard, president of The Goldstein Group. “Barnes & Noble is the world’s largest retail bookseller with approximately 600 bookstores and is a leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products. They plan on opening 30 stores in 2023.”
Lanyard represented the retailer alongside Marc Palestina, a director with the Paramus-based brokerage firm, noting that the chain will continue to open its classic large bookstores, but also adapt with newly designed spaces that have full height bookshelves arranged more like an independent bookstore. Peter Robbins of Robbins Agency represented the landlord, United Leasehold LLC.
