A new upscale café and lounge has come to Jersey City Urby, the distinctive 69-story apartment tower along the Hudson waterfront.
The French-inspired eatery, Canard Café, opened this past weekend inside the lobby of the property at 200 Greene St. Its owner and the building’s developer hopes it will be the latest addition to the collection of shared social spaces in and around the structure, which houses more than 760 apartments within Jersey City’s Harborside neighborhood.
“With Canard, we’re creating a lively environment for people to enjoy delicious coffee, pastries and bites throughout the day,” said Sebastien Muller, the café’s founder. “We’re thrilled to be opening in the Jersey City Urby where we will be part of a community that can share in our culture and is a hub for the neighborhood to stop in for a coffee, work or meet with friends.”
Muller is the director of operations for Le District, the French market and food hall located in Lower Manhattan’s Brookfield Place. According to a news release, the name of the new location is inspired by the French custom of canard, dipping a sugar cube in coffee as a treat.
French Chef Anthony Matteu and his team will offer a menu of breakfast, lunch and dessert items that includes egg sandwiches, crepes, apple turnovers, blueberry lemon scones and mini madeleines, the news release said. Other offerings will include quiches and sandwiches, along with desserts such as Belgian chocolate mousse, key lime pie, biscotti crust cheesecake and apple cinnamon crumble.
The drink menu consists of hot and iced coffee, espressos, lattes, teas, smoothies, fresh squeezed juices and protein shakes.
“We’re excited to bring this fresh concept to Jersey City,” said David Barry, founder and CEO of Urby. “The addition of Canard Café Bar reflects Urby’s commitment to creating vibrant community spaces for residents and locals.”
Canard Café at Jersey City Urby will be open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
