ON THE HORIZON
As property values have steadily risen over the past several years, municipalities have been aggressively
filing reverse tax appeals to increase assessments. MSW continues to assist taxpayers in defending against
these appeals, which have become common in certain municipalities. For 2021, the COVD-19 crisis will likely adversely impact property values, as rental streams have decreased, and vacancy rates have increased for income- producing properties. MSW anticipates significant opportunities to lower tax burdens heading into the new year.
TRANSACTION SPOTLIGHT
MSW recently represented a Newark-based public research university in securing a much-needed property tax exemption for multiple parcels it had purchased
as part of an important campus expansion. MSW
also recently secured a twenty-five-year PILOT for
the development of a 72-unit multifamily apartment building in Newark.
