A home interiors store is expanding to New Jersey after taking 15,000 square feet at a Linden retail property, according to a brokerage team with JLL.
The tenant, Furniture to Go, is backfilling space at 1771 West Edgar Road that was previously home to Planet of Wine, JLL said. The property will mark the second location for the family-owned and -operated business, which is based in Staten Island and will open the new store under a long-term lease with Sunkris Realty LCC.
JLL Managing Director David Townes and Vice President Alan Friedman represented both parties in the deal, which follows the landlord’s recent acquisition of a nearby asset at 1601 West Edgar Road. T-Mobile and Mattress Warehouse currently occupy one of two buildings at the 13,000-square-foot property, while Planet of Wine will relocate to the remaining 6,500 square feet in the second building early next year when Furniture to Go opens its new location.
“This was a multifaceted transaction with many moving parts,” Townes said. “Ultimately, we were able to achieve outcomes that position our clients to capitalize on exponential growth in Linden as the city proactively supports ongoing responsible development that is bringing hundreds of new homes and jobs to the city while supporting its tax base.”
The JLL team noted Linden’s location — some 13 miles from Manhattan, across from Staten Island and near Route 1&9 — as well as recent industrial and multifamily development has made it attractive to investors such as Sunkris Realty LCC. To that end, the brokers cited projects such as the seven-building, 4.1 million-square-foot Linden Logistics Center and the 334-unit One West Apartments on North Wood Avenue.
“All of these new residents are, in turn, driving demand for more retail and we look forward to bring many more new shopping and dining options to the city,” Friedman said.
