The federal government is gearing up to sell more than 800,000 square feet of industrial space in Somerville as part of an upcoming auction by the U.S. General Services Administration.
Located on Roycefield Road, the so-called Somerville Depot includes four warehouses of 198,715 square feet and five smaller support facilities. The buildings occupy 83.5 acres on two noncontiguous parcels, boasting a location that’s minutes from major logistics corridors and 30 miles from Port Newark-Elizabeth.
The GSA, which is selling the property via a sealed bid auction that ends Aug. 4, also touted the 810,000-square-foot complex’s substantial scale and established infrastructure. That creates what it said is an “exceptional” opportunity for strategic reinvestment in a well-established location.
“GSA is focused on delivering value for the American taxpayer,” said Edward C. Forst, the agency’s administrator. “By strategically offloading long-term liabilities, we are executing on President Trump’s directive to shrink the federal real estate portfolio to a stronger core.”
The announcement strongly encouraged all interested parties to thoroughly read the official Invitation for Bids (IFB) document for complete auction details including terms, conditions, detailed property information and bidding procedures.
