Apartments at a massive mixed-use project in Jersey City are now just months away from hitting the market, with preleasing for the 1,723-unit property set to begin early next year.
Its developer, Kushner, has tapped The Marketing Directors as its leasing agent for the $1 billion property known The Journal, which will bring more than 2 million square feet of residential and retail space to the city’s resurgent Journal Square section. The firms noted that the project’s two 64-story towers are now topped out, as they look to lure renters with upscale amenities, convenience and a location adjacent to the Journal Square PATH station.
“The Journal represents an exciting new chapter for Journal Square and Jersey City, bringing Kushner’s extraordinary vision for elevated city living to life,” said Jacqueline Urgo, president of The Marketing Directors. “We look forward to introducing prospective residents to the remarkable lifestyle, amenities and connectivity this development offers. It’s a true testament to Jersey City’s growth, and we’re confident it will resonate with the community.”
Designed by the global architectural firm Woods Bagot, The Journal has a slender, vertical profile and a series of stepped volumes that blend with the surrounding neighborhood, Kushner said in a news release. The property will have a 40,000-square-foot ground-floor retail component that is leased to Target, plus a nearly one-acre public plaza with landscaping and seating areas that will open onto John F. Kennedy Boulevard.
Plans for the residential buildings include 45,000 square feet of amenities focused on health, wellness and recreation, including an Olympic-size indoor pool, a whirlpool spa, a bowling alley, a golf simulator and multiple lounges, Kushner said. The Journal is also set to provide dedicated coworking spaces, a chef’s kitchen and a children’s club, plus a modern fitness center with yoga and spin rooms, a full-size indoor basketball court, a rock-climbing wall and squash courts.
Residents, meantime, will have access to rooftop terraces and an outdoor pool, while ownership will provide concierge services such as coordinating moving, cleaning and pet sitting services as well as programming, featuring engaging events and fitness classes. They’ll also have sweeping views of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.
The project was nearly a decade in the making when Kushner broke ground in June 2022, joining Mayor Steven Fulop and other officials to kick off the high-profile development.
