A new pizzeria and Italian restaurant has opened its doors at Newark’s Springfield Avenue Marketplace, according to a leasing team with Levin Management Corp.
The real estate services firm said the business, Sugo, occupies 2,100 square feet at the 108,000-square-foot, grocery-anchored property at 204-234 Springfield Ave. It’s among the newest tenants at the neighborhood shopping center since its completion roughly a decade ago, LMC said, noting that its operator is an experienced restauranteur who also owns the popular eatery Assaggini Di Roma in Hazlet.
“Shoppers and local residents alike have previously appreciated the presence of a pizzeria at this location,” LMC’s E.J. Moawad said. “Springfield Avenue Marketplace, which is part of a mixed-use community with 152 apartments, has drawn several new dining tenants in the past few years. This has contributed to its appeal for the built-in residential population as well as the surrounding community. Sugo rounds out the property’s restaurant choices nicely.”
Moawad, a senior leasing representative with North Plainfield-based LMC, represented ownership in the deal with Sugo, while Tania Pesante of Real Broker LLC represented the tenant. He added that Sugo joins other on-site food options such as Snap Back by Hook & Reel, Taco Bell, McDonald’s and Sarku Japan, while a new pad site with drive-through is coming to the property to accommodate the existing Popeye’s.
Located minutes from Newark’s downtown and Four Corners Historic District, Springfield Avenue Marketplace serves a dense consumer base of about 443,000 within a three-mile radius, LMC said. The firm added that the property draws 2.6 million visitors per year, citing real-time traffic data from Placer.ai, thanks to a tenant base that also includes a 67,000-square-foot ShopRite, Snipes, Ashley Stewart, CityLife Health, Venus Beauty Supply, Angel Nail Spa, T-Mobile and H&R Block.
LMC is currently marketing a 1,850-square-foot restaurant space that is coming available at Springfield Avenue Marketplace, as well as three adjacent units that can combine for up to 3,500 square feet.
