State officials are seeking pitches from companies that have shown an interest in redeveloping 12 acres directly adjacent to the busy Metropark transit hub in Woodbridge.
On Thursday, Gov. Phil Murphy and NJ Transit issued a request for proposals to four undisclosed finalists that successfully submitted responses to an earlier solicitation for expressions of interest. The agency is seeking to spur mixed-use development at the site as part of a statewide plan, under which it hopes to activate its train and bus stations in support of sustainability goals and creating new revenue streams.
“Transit-oriented developments are key to New Jersey’s economic future,” Murphy said. “NJ Transit’s innovative efforts on this front are welcome as demand for housing continues to be at historic highs in New Jersey. This development will create brand new housing that is connected to New York City and other key economic centers in our area.”
Located along the Northeast Corridor line and just south of Route 27, the Metropark station is one of NJ Transit’s busiest. Redeveloping the site would fit into the agency’s 2030 10-year Strategic Plan, through which it’s promoting a more sustainable future through the development of walkable communities, engaging in adaptive reuse of property to maximize its value and fostering a green economy by reducing emissions related to transportation.
