Woodmont Properties has appointed Jon Moore as co-chief investment officer and principal of a newly formed division focused on value-add multifamily investments.
Moore, who has more than 30 years of experience in real estate finance, is now working alongside the firm’s executive team as well as Co-Chief Investment Officer David Trager, who plans to retire at year-end, to support its development pipeline and new ventures. As principal of Woodmont Value-Add Partners, he’ll be integral to the company’s investment strategy, capital raising, acquisitions and investor relations, while he’ll play a central role in strategy, long-term growth and innovation as a member of Woodmont’s executive and investment committees.
The Fairfield-based firm owns, develops and manages multifamily and industrial properties across five states.
“As we strengthen our operations and position Woodmont for future success, we’re pleased to welcome Jon to our team,” CEO Eric Witmondt said. “Jon’s proven track record and multifaceted expertise will immediately enhance key areas of our business, making a lasting impact on our project pipeline and expansion efforts.”
Moore most recently was president of Urby, a joint venture of Brookfield and Urby Management, where he led the company’s growth from three assets in the Northeast into a nationally recognized platform with a diversified geographic and capital base, according to a news release. He also spent more than a decade at Brookfield Properties as chief investment officer for its multifamily group and mixed-use development business, overseeing more than $40 billion in transactions.
Highlights of Moore’s tenure included Brookfield’s investment in Fairfield Residential, real estate investment trust privatizations such as Associated Estates and Forest City, the acquisition of two large Class B apartment portfolios in the Southeast, a value-add housing portfolio in Upper Manhattan and the Greenpoint Landing development in Brooklyn.
“Over the past 22 years, I’ve had the pleasure of being part of Woodmont’s remarkable evolution from a 35-person team to a national, multi-asset developer with an exceptional over 200-person team,” Trager said. “Jon is an unparalleled professional and I’m confident he will help lead our team’s continued growth and prosperity as co-chief investment officer and principal of Woodmont Value-Add Partners.
“I look forward to working closely with him to facilitate a seamless transition of responsibilities ahead of my retirement at the end of the year and to ensure Woodmont remains a leading company and valued partner.”
Moore is currently an adviser to Ori Systems, a Khosla Ventures and Google VC portfolio company, and a member of Urban Land Institute’s Multifamily Council and the National Multifamily Housing Council, the news release said. He served on the investment committees and board of directors for Fairfield Residential and its three value-add funds, as well as the board of advisers for New York University’s Furman Center for Housing.
He holds an MBA in finance from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business, a real estate degree from New York University and a bachelor’s from Muhlenberg College.
Woodmont noted Trager has been a partner and integral member of its executive team for more than two decades, having played an instrumental role in the company’s success and growth. His contributions include the acquisition and development of multifamily and industrial properties, the advancement of lending and equity relationships and geographical expansion.
