JLL has bolstered its life sciences practice with the addition of John Cunningham, a broker with more than 30 years of experience in the state’s commercial real estate sector.

The firm announced Tuesday that Cunningham has been hired as an executive vice president in its Parsippany office, where he will work with Daniel Loughlin, an international director and the head of New Jersey office brokerage and the life sciences practice for JLL. Cunningham, 53, most recently was the national director of the life sciences practice of an international brokerage firm.
“JLL remains at the forefront of solutions for New Jersey’s evolving pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors,” Loughlin said in a prepared statement. “Our real estate professionals are widely recognized for their ability to negotiate complex real estate transactions and deliver cost-effective alternatives for clients.
“John Cunningham is known throughout the state for his expertise with life sciences tenants and landlords, and will serve a crucial role in the continued growth of JLL’s life sciences practice in New Jersey.”
Cunningham specializes in representing corporate office and life sciences clients across the globe, JLL said in a news release. The industry veteran has been involved in more than 500 leasing, sale or consulting transactions valued at more than $1 billion.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University, the news release said. He is a licensed real estate broker in New Jersey and is an active member of BioNJ and NewYorkBIO.
JLL has played a major role in some of the state’s high-profile pharmaceutical and life sciences deals in recent years. In the past six months, it has closed nearly 1.2 million square feet in leases and one major sale in the region.
The firm recently represented Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. in the sale of its former 116-acre campus in Nutley and Clifton to Prism Capital Partners LLC. JLL also represented the pharmaceutical firm in the leasing of about 500,000 square feet to Hackensack-Meridian Health and Seton Hall University for a new medical school at the site.
Last year, JLL represented Allergan plc in its 431,500-square-foot lease at 5 Giralda Farms in Madison for its new U.S. headquarters and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals in its lease of 233,000 square feet at Somerset Financial Center in Bedminster.
