Walters Group has broken ground on a 100-unit, age-restricted affordable housing community in southern Ocean County, with plans to open the complex early next year.
The property, to be known as Cornerstone at Stafford, will be located at 120 Campbell Blvd. in the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township. The project is also the latest addition to a larger 370-acre redevelopment area known as Stafford Park, which encompasses a 400,000-square-foot mixed-use retail complex and residential neighborhood.
Walters said the three-story building will include 91 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom floorplans, ranging from 626 square feet to 1,086 square feet. The community will be reserved for residents age 55 and older.
“As the number of seniors living in Monmouth and Ocean Counties continues to increase, so does the demand for high-quality affordable housing,” said Joseph Del Duca, partner and general counsel for Walters Group. “This development is an exceptional housing option for seniors, offering high-end amenities as well as convenient access to the nearby Stafford Park retail shops and restaurants.”
The Barnegat-based firm touted the property’s location just off Exit 63 of the Garden State Parkway. What’s more, each unit will have high-end appliances and finishes, while residents will have access to a community lounge, fitness area, resident activities and health and wellness seminars.
The broader Stafford Park complex has transformed what was a brownfield site in need of remediation, Walters said. The latest addition is meant to address the substantial need for senior housing in Ocean County, while continuing the firm’s focus on green building practices.
“Cornerstone at Stafford is being designed as a sustainable development that will improve the health and wellbeing of residents while saving energy, environmental resources and money,” Del Duca said.
