Gilbane Building Co. has a new leader in its New Jersey office after promoting John E. Anderson III, a veteran project manager and member of its team for more than a decade.
In his role as business leader, Anderson will focus on expanding the company’s market portfolio and service offerings, fostering team development and growth and delivering world-class facilities for clients and communities in the New Jersey area, according to a news release. He comes to the post with an extensive background in health care, commercial, residential and life sciences construction, having spent the last 10 years in Gilbane’s New York City office.
“As a construction veteran and longtime Gilbane team member, John fully embodies the values we look for in a business leader — he is growth-oriented, safety obsessed, people-focused and community-minded,” said Shawn Carlin, senior business leader at Gilbane Building. “Combined with his impressive track record executing complex builds and renovations across a wide range of industries in the New York City market, we’re excited to see what John brings as the leader of our New Jersey office.”
Anderson, a sixth-generation member of the family that has grown Gilbane over more than 150 years, will be based in the firm’s Newark office. The company noted that his project experience includes 50 Hudson Yards, where he oversaw construction of the core and shell of a 2.9 million-square-foot, 58-story office building, along with the firm’s NYCEDC NYC Health + Hospitals Metropolitan Hospital Resiliency Project, which included construction of a new permanent flood mitigation system and the renovation of the New York City and New York State Emergency Management Chempak Room.
All told, Anderson has more than 17 years of experience in the construction industry, having held a range of different roles on and off site for Gilbane, the firm said. He has also served on the Gilbane NYC Safety Task Force and led the Project Manager Peer Group, while he is a former ACE Mentor with the ACE Mentor Program and has remained actively involved in community and charitable initiatives, particularly through the Metropolitan Hospital Center project.
“Gilbane has a long and successful history building in New Jersey, and I am honored by the opportunity to build on our construction leadership in this market,” Anderson said. “As a family-owned business, Gilbane has built its reputation on trusted relationships and a deep commitment to delivering for our clients. I’m excited to lead our talented team in New Jersey and continue serving our clients and communities with excellence.”
