The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has acquired a former AMC movie theater property in Hamilton as part of a plan to bring a new pediatric care facility to the Mercer County township.
According to local officials, which announced the transaction last week, the municipality and the provider have launched a thorough, collaborative process to develop proposals for the future use of the property at 325 Sloan Ave. That will pave the way for the development of construction plans, the township said, noting that its goal is to support CHOP in the redevelopment process “to ensure a smooth and timely transformation of the site.”
A post by TradedNJ listed the sale price as $17.5 million, noting that Newmark brokered the deal.
“Hamilton Township is excited to welcome CHOP to town,” Mayor Jeff Martin said. “As a parent to a young child, I know the concern of every parent for their child’s health, and having CHOP here in our backyard ensures the children of Hamilton will always have easy access to the best possible medical care. It has been great to partner with Mercer County and CHOP to make this first step a reality, and I am looking forward to our continued partnership through the redevelopment process.”
Officials added that CHOP “has a long history of delivering leading clinical care to children and families in central New Jersey and beyond.” According to the organization’s website, the provider has dozens of locations throughout the state.
“Mercer County welcomes the news that a world-renowned health care institution like the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is coming to Hamilton Township and Mercer County,” said Dan Benson, the county executive. “I was proud to work closely with Mayor Martin and with CHOP to turn an idea into reality and breathe new life into the old AMC site, while bringing good-paying jobs to our community and improving the health of our region’s children.”
Madeline Bell, CHOP’s chief executive, added: “Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia serves children from throughout the region and around the world with the aim to make pediatric care available as close to home as possible. The health of New Jersey’s children is a key component of our overall mission, and we’re looking forward to the future of bringing high-quality care, expanded services and improved convenience to the families of central New Jersey and the broader region. This step underscores our commitment to ensure healthier futures for all children.”
