Walters has broken ground on a collection of 73 upscale, income-restricted apartments in the Burlington County township of Hainesport.
In a news release this week, the developer said the first building at Cornerstone at Hainesport is slated to welcome its first residents as soon as December. That will follow an application period starting this summer to enter the housing lottery for the property, located off Creek Road near the Mason Woods Lane intersection, as the firm continues to expand its portfolio of affordable housing in the state.
“We are proud to be offering more family living options to those in the Hainesport area at a time when it is greatly needed,” said Joseph Del Duca, partner and director of affordable housing for Barnegat-based Walters. “The new community will offer residents a safe place to live with impressive amenities and support services.”
Located near the Mount Laurel border, the Donovan Architects-designed complex will span six buildings with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The units will be open to individuals and families who are at or below 60 percent of the area’s median income, with rental rates based on income, family size and the number of bedrooms.
Walters added that it was building the project to achieve certifications with the Energy Star program and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale. Amenities will include a high-end fitness center, a children’s tot lot, a basketball court and a community clubhouse with computer workstations.
