An attorney with Genova Burns LLC’s real estate and land use teams has earned a promotion to counsel, in one of several newly announced moves by the Newark-based law firm.

Previously an associate, Gerard D. Pizzillo is an experienced practitioner in real estate development and redevelopment law as well as tax abatement, zoning and land use, Genova Burns said. He has drafted and reviewed documents in all areas of commercial and residential real estate transactions, including leasing and financing.
Additionally, the firm said Pizzillo represents public housing authorities in Section 8 and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements, as well as associated issues in education, business organization and civil and corporate law, according to a news release. The Sayreville resident is based in Genova Burns’ Jersey City office and has been with firm since 2016.
“I am excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Pizzillo said. “I would like to thank the GB family and everyone who has helped make this a reality.”
Genova Burns also recently promoted Matthew I.W. Baker, Avi D. Kelin and Young-Ji Park from associate to counsel, recognizing their contributions to the firm in recent years.
“Beyond exhibiting a commitment to excellence in the practice of law, fundamental to the firm’s mission, this group has gone above and beyond by developing new practice areas and by assuming leadership roles in and outside the firm,” said Angelo J. Genova, chairman and managing partner of Genova Burns. “Their respective track records reflect what we hope for in all our colleagues and bodes well for the trajectory of our firm and its success.”
