Gibbons PC, one of New Jersey’s most storied and influential law firms, is merging with Cincinnati-based Frost Brown Todd LLP to create a new midmarket legal powerhouse with some 800 attorneys and reach across the country.
Newark-based Gibbons joined FBT on Wednesday to announce the move, which is effective Jan. 1, 2026, noting that the new FBT Gibbons LLP will have 25 offices nationwide. The announcement follows a vote by both firms, paving the way for them to offer expanded capabilities across practices, with richer industry insights and a footprint extending from New York to California.
Peter Torcicollo, managing director of Gibbons, and Adam Hall, CEO of FBT, will serve as co-managing partners of the combined firm, according to a news release. Robert Sartin, chairman of FBT, will serve as chairman of FBT Gibbons.
“This combination is a transformational step for both firms, creating a best-in-class national platform with deeper resources,” Sartin said. “Gibbons shares our commitment to clients and community, with a focus on delivering exceptional legal counsel and fostering a culture where everyone can thrive. Together, we will be even better positioned to partner with clients and grow in key markets.”
The firms added that the new practice will serve clients from the Fortune 500 and midsized business to growth-oriented startups.
“Combining these firms supercharges our strategic ambitions and amplifies our impact from coast to coast,” Torcicollo said. “Clients will gain access to a deeper bench of industry-savvy attorneys and a nationwide presence that positions us as a formidable force in the legal landscape.”
Hall added: “This combination gives us the scale to continue investing in the talent, technology and systems needed to deliver exceptional service, while creating a stronger platform to attract and retain top talent in the markets where both firms thrive. We’re bringing together two highly respected institutions with complementary strengths and shared values to create something truly exceptional for our people and our clients.”
Gibbons, long based at Newark’s One Gateway Center, has an influential real estate practice as part of a platform that includes areas such as business and commercial, labor and employment, products liability, environmental, white collar and investigations, class action defense and life sciences. That will provide added support for some of FBT’s national clients, the news release said, while the combination will also leverage both firms’ strengths to drive growth in corporate and transactional work in New York and beyond.
Founded in Newark by Andrew B. Crummy, Gibbons will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. Frost Brown Todd, meantime, serves some of America’s leading corporations — including more than half of the Fortune 100, as well as emerging companies — and traces its roots to the 1919 founding of Frost & Jacobs in Cincinnati.
