A grocery app has selected its first New Jersey location, leasing 4,000 square feet in downtown Jersey City, in a newly announced deal by Grid Real Estate LLC.
In a news release, the team said Grid’s Bobby Antonicello Jr. represented ownership at 338 Newark Ave. in the long-term lease between PlazaCorp and Gorillas, a Berlin, Germany-based startup that promises to deliver groceries and everyday items in as little as 10 minutes. Ripco’s Alex Beard represented Gorillas.
“It was the logical move,” Antonicello said. “The tenant already has locations in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. Jersey City seemed like the next logical market to expand. The location in Jersey City allows them to reach customers on both the waterfront and Journal Square in 10 minutes or less.”
As of early 2022 Gorillas had raised $290 million in Series B funding and has a valuation that surpasses $1 billion, the news release said. Gorillas has not yet announced when it will be open at the Jersey City location, but construction has begun inside the space.
