The LeFrak Organization is mourning the loss of Jeremy Farrell, a key executive with the real estate firm and the former corporation counsel for Jersey City.
The company announced Tuesday that Farrell died suddenly at age 44. A prominent figure with the organization, he was the firm’s special counsel and senior managing director of community and government affairs, often serving as the face of its development pipeline in Jersey City’s landmark Newport district and elsewhere.
He joined LeFrak in 2018.
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Jeremy Farrell,” said Richard LeFrak, chairman and CEO of the LeFrak Organization. “Jeremy was a cherished member of our team and a cornerstone in the community at large, and he leaves an important legacy in Newport and Jersey City. My deepest condolences go to Jeremy’s family during this unimaginably difficult time.”
LeFrak said that, in his more than five years with the firm, Farrell was devoted to serving his community and worked hand in hand with the city of Jersey City on vital public initiatives, including the installation of Water’s Soul, a major public art sculpture on the Newport waterfront. Prior to joining the company, he held roles including executive director of the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority and corporation counsel under Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.

Before entering the public sector, Farrell was an attorney at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP. He began his career as a judicial clerk at the United States District Court.
“Jeremy Farrell was the rarest of human beings: incredibly smart and kind, yet firm and respected by all of his colleagues,” said Jamie LeFrak, vice chairman and managing director of LeFrak. “He was a beloved mentor to all those who had the honor of working with him. For Newport and the LeFrak family, Jeremy’s passing is one we will mourn forever. He will be missed more than words can express.”
LeFrak said Farrell’s death will not only have a profound impact within the company, but throughout the Newport and Jersey City, where he was well-known. He is survived by his wife Sarah and son Aidan, the company said, while asking that his family’s privacy be respected as it grieves.
