Development firm Landmark is set to deliver two new residential properties that will add a combined 185 apartments to its portfolio in Union County.
According to the company, the projects include an 85-unit expansion of its multiphase Centurion Union Center project on Stuyvesant Avenue in Union Township. The other will come in a new market for Landmark, in Plainfield, where it’s set to open 100 rentals at 1222 South Ave. under a development known as Centurion Sleepy Hollow.
Both projects will begin preleasing in mid-August and welcome their first residents as soon as October.
“We’re excited by the traction the Centurion brand is gaining in a variety of New Jersey markets,” said Manny Fernandez, founder of Landmark. “These new communities reflect the kind of thoughtful development we believe more towns are ready for: contextual, design-driven and neighborhood-enhancing. We’re continuing to explore new opportunities across the state where Centurion can be a catalyst for lasting, community-first growth.”
Designed by Comito Associates PC, with interiors curated by Lita Dirks & Co LLC, the latest addition to Centurion Union Center is a five-story building with upscale amenities and 107 public parking spaces. It comes as part of a sweeping public-private initiative between Landmark and Union Township to revitalize an area that had seen little to no new residential construction in more than 30 years, the firm said, noting that it razed outdated structures along Stuyvesant Avenue to make way for a multiphase plan with 363 new apartments and some 32,000 square feet of retail space.

The existing phases include 182 residences and 10 individual retail spaces totaling 14,836 square feet, according to a news release. The properties are home to neighborhood retailers such as Ayala Coffee, Unity Bank, Norma’s Flowers, Angie Nails, Head & Tails Pet Salon, Pilates Pilates Pilates, bb.q Chicken, Pao Da Casa, Cedrus Salon and Qsina8, all of which report strong support not only from the steadily growing residential base at Centurion Union, but from the broader Union community.
“Centurion Union Center represents the kind of smart growth that not only re-energizes an underutilized downtown but sets the foundation for long-term community success,” Fernandez said. “When we created the Centurion brand, it was with the goal of developing properties that speak to the needs and sensibilities of today’s renter while adding lasting value to the fabric of each neighborhood. Every Centurion property is shaped by the context of its location, resulting in places that feel authentic, vibrant and connected to their surroundings.”
Centurion Sleepy Hollow, for its part, consists of luxury apartments, modern amenities and retail space as part of a project designed by Rotwein + Blake, with interiors by Mary Cook Associates, The property also builds on Landmark’s vision for transit-accessible living in walkable suburban settings.
The firm noted that its other Centurion communities include a two-building, 114-unit property in Elizabeth and a 72-unit, historically inspired community in Newark’s vibrant Ironbound district.
