Larken Associates has broken ground on a 254-unit multifamily project in Readington, as it looks to reposition what had been a partially built office campus on Route 22.
The project, which is slated for completion in summer 2022, will bring both market-rate and affordable housing to a site near the Oldwick Road intersection. Plans call for a mix of 168 one- and two-bedroom garden apartments spread across seven buildings and 86 one- and two-bedroom units in two buildings with elevators, equating to 21 different unit types.
The Ridge at Readington will be the first piece of reinventing 17.2 acres that were originally slated for an eight-building professional office campus, Larken said. The firm pivoted to a residential project on the site in recent years as demand for office space weakened and the demand for housing in Hunterdon County grew.
“In today’s fast-paced and turbulent real estate market, Larken Associates’ ability to quickly realize emerging opportunities and act on them continues to be critical to our company’s ongoing success,” said David Gardner, CEO and president of Larken Associates. “Through reimagining this site and tapping into our expansive in-house multifamily development, design and management expertise, we are confident that we will bring a one-of-a-kind residential experience to those hoping to call Hunterdon County home and capitalize on the significantly elevated demand for multifamily space in the local market.”
The Branchburg-based developer announced in December that it received final site plan approval for the project. It now hopes to capitalize on Hunterdon County’s central location between Philadelphia and New York City, along with its highly rated schools, recreation offerings and its mix of rural setting and growing downtowns.
In a news release, Larken said The Ridge at Readington will feature upscale apartments and amenities such as a clubhouse with a theater room, a pool, a gym and an outdoor lounge area, among others. Once completed, it will be the latest addition to the firm’s growing portfolio of multifamily properties.
Core Enterprises, Larken Associates’ in-house construction team, is managing the project.
