A well-known broker has joined Marcus & Millichap in New Jersey, with the goal of building a team and expanding its presence in the region’s booming industrial sector.

The brokerage and advisory firm announced that it has hired Mitchell Katz, a 20-year industry veteran, as a first vice president and member of its National Office and Industrial Properties Group. He joins Marcus & Millichap after nearly a decade with Newmark Knight Frank, where he served as a managing director based in its Rutherford office.
“Mitch brings a combination of experience, deep client relationships and user friendliness that is rare in our business,” said Brian Hosey, vice president and regional manager of Marcus & Millichap’s New Jersey office. “His integrity and history of accomplishments on behalf of clients make him a great fit for the New Jersey office.
“Mitch will be instrumental in fulfilling our strategic goal of expanding the firm’s advisory services in the office and industrial sector of northern New Jersey.”
Katz, who will be based in Saddle Brook, will help Marcus & Millichap grow a team of industrial brokers that will supplement its existing investment sales platform. The firm already has a deep bench of specialists in multifamily, retail and other asset classes, while it has historically focused on private client business with sales in the $1 million to $10 million range.
Hosey last year spoke of plans to expand into larger deals and make a greater push into the office and industrial sector. Katz, meantime, called it “a welcome opportunity for me at the right time, in the right place,” pointing to the firm’s vast network of buyers and sellers.
“The reach of Marcus is tremendous,” he said. “The relationships that exist and the database that exists were all factors that convinced me that this was a good move for me at this point in my career.”
Katz has completed more than 440 commercial real estate transactions valued at over $800 million, Marcus & Millichap said in a news release. He is a past New Jersey chapter president of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and remains a member of the organization as well as NAIOP New Jersey.
Prior to Newmark Knight Frank, he also served with Trammell Crow Co. and Cushman & Wakefield.
“Marcus & Millichap is the perfect platform at this stage in my career,” Katz said. “Their collaborative environment and ability to help me grow a team was a major draw for me.”
