Resource Realty of Northern New Jersey is marking 35 years in business while staying focused on the future, with a growing leadership team and an expanding geographic footprint.
Founded by Tom Consiglio, the Parsippany-based firm is a fixture in one of the region’s most competitive commercial real estate markets, serving clients in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. But it began as a small operation occupying 2,525 square feet in Fairfield, part of a collaborative consortium of three like-minded, independently owned and operated firms in one of the industry’s worst recessionary periods — before going on to navigate other economic downturns and a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.
It did so by staying agile while building trust among clients and long-term partners across all levels of commercial real estate, the company said, from The Children’s Place and Amscan Inc. to Bayer, Amazing Savings, Campmor and Laura Ashley. And its clients continue to include the likes of UPS.
“I didn’t want to build a firm just known for brokering deals,” said Consiglio, who noted the firm’s earliest branding touted building relationships one step at a time — using visuals of stairs highlighting key transactions. “I envisioned something more meaningful, something that went beyond transactions and remain as committed to this axiom today as I was from day one.”
RRNNJ took another step toward ensuring its steady upward trajectory when, last year, it named Greg Sabato, Brian Wilson and Scott Peck as principals. Each has risen through the ranks of the firm and holds the prestigious Society of Industrial and Office Realtors designation, allowing them to help clients meet their needs regionally, nationally and globally.
“We’ve always believed in putting our clients first,” said Peck, who joined RRNNJ at its inception as a senior vice president. “Our business is all about understanding the unique needs of every client, their long-term goals and finding solutions unique to them that truly align with their vision.”
Notably, the firm’s leadership opted to move to Parsippany in 2000, placing it the junction of. Route 46 and interstates 80 and 287. According to a news release, the move coincided with RRNNJ’s strategy to cast a wider net into New York State, leading to transactions on behalf of Amscan at Enterprise Drive in Newburgh and a series of leases and sales totaling more than 2 million square feet, including an 887,000-square-foot built-to-suit property in Chester.
“Our success is intertwined with the success of the businesses that drive our local economy,” said Sabato, who joined the firm in 2007. “We are committed to fostering a thriving business environment and contributing to the overall economic growth of our region.”
The company added that Wilson, who also joined the firm in 2007, is an example of its focus on mentorship and collaboration, emphasis on a strong internal culture and sense of loyalty and camaraderie within the organization.
“With Tom as the driving force, Resource Realty has always had a family-first atmosphere,” Wilson said. “He genuinely cares about the team, and that’s something you don’t find in every workplace. Fortunately, when I was new to commercial real estate, I had Tom as my mentor and he made sure I had his support — and still do — especially in the early years.”
In announcing its newest principals last year, the firm noted that Sabato, Wilson and Peck will remain active on the transaction front while helping to guide its leasing and sales activities and its expanding geographic footprint.
“Resource Realty’s story is still being written,” Consiglio said. “We’ve laid a strong foundation, and I’m incredibly excited to see what comes next. The future is bright.”
