The STRO Cos. has tapped longtime commercial real estate executive Gabriel Shiff as its new chief operating officer, the Ridgewood-based firm announced Monday.
The company, part of the Millstein family office, said Shiff will leverage his 25 years of industry experience to oversee and enhance all elements of its real estate platform. That includes taking a leadership role in directing STRO’s acquisitions, capital markets, leasing, accounting and finance, construction and development and asset and property management functions and initiatives.
He’ll do so in tandem with Steven Millstein, STRO’s founder and principal, to enhance the value of its existing properties, grow the portfolio in its existing markets and expand into new ones in the Southeast.
“I am excited by the opportunity to work alongside Steve and STRO’s talented team of professionals to grow the company’s portfolio and drive continued operational excellence,” Shiff said.
The veteran industry executive is the former chief operating officer and chief investment officer at the former Roseland Property Co., which became the residential platform of Mack-Cali Realty Corp. and later Veris Residential Inc. During his tenure, he led Roseland’s growth from seven to 24 operating assets, exponentially increasing average ownership and net operating income while executing more than $3 billion in acquisitions and dispositions and more than $4 billion in debt financing and equity raises, STRO said.
Before his role at Roseland, Shiff was an analyst at The Bear Stearns Cos.’ real estate, gaming and lodging investment banking group, according to a news release. He holds a bachelor in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
“I am excited to have Gabriel join our STRO team,” Millstein said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and resources and has significant experience with institutional equity recapitalizations and raises, which is something our family’s next generation is interested in pursuing. His experience and mentoring of our children, who recently joined STRO, will prove invaluable as we continue our rapid growth in northern New Jersey and the Southeast.”
