Viking Residential has unveiled more than 300 new apartments in Lumberton, part of a long-awaited project that includes market-rate and affordable homes across a range of product types.
The firm recently joined its project team, local officials and other visitors to mark the opening of The Wexford, a collection of one- and two-bedroom units just off Route 38. That includes 262 market-rate and 42 low-income apartments, which have opened alongside 90 single-family homes being built by Parapone and 70 affordable homes by the Walters Group.
According to a news release, the complex occupies land originally purchased by the late Robert T. Healey. That gave way to a lengthy planning and approval process and subsequent redevelopment agreement with the municipality over the course of a decade, concluding with the project’s completion earlier this year at 100 Dorchester Drive.
“Building a housing community that is a mix of market-rate and affordable apartments as well as single-family homes was a dream of my father’s since he purchased the 200 acres in Lumberton in 2014,” said Caroline Adillon, president of Viking Residential. “My brother, Bob Healey, and my brother-in-law, Robert Sherriff, and I worked closely on this project, but we couldn’t have developed this property without the help of many others from within the company.”
The property’s architect was VLBJR, while Bancroft Construction Co. built the apartment community, club house and pool, the news release said. Citizens Bank and Fulton Bank served as the lenders.
“We wish to thank Mayor Gina LaPlaca, members of township committee and the diligent staff members within Lumberton Township for all their hard work and for being a part of turning my father’s dream into a reality,” Adillon added.
