A new Burlington store is set to backfill a former Toys R Us and Babies R Us store in Somerset County, where the retailer has signed a lease for 46,000 square feet.
Levin Management Corp., the leasing and managing agent for the Somerville Circle Shopping Center, announced Thursday that the national off-price chain has inked a commitment for the 150,000-square-foot complex in Raritan. The new store will occupy a freestanding building at the property at 300 Route 202, with plans calling for a spring 2020 opening.
LMC Senior Leasing Representative Vanessa Fernandez-Kelty represented ownership, while Clifford Simon and David Rosen of CNS Real Estate represented the tenant.
“Off price retailers are thriving in the current marketplace, and Burlington — which is aggressively expanding its footprint — is no exception,” Fernandez-Kelty said. She noted that Burlington operates roughly 690 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico, offering in-season, fashion-focused merchandise at up to 60 percent off other retailers’ prices.
In Raritan, Burlington will join anchors Staples, Petco and P.C. Richard & Son, along with other national and regional tenants including Carter’s, Jersey Mike’s and Panera Bread.
“Burlington is a terrific anchor addition for this property, which is an established ‘one-stop’ shopping destination for regional consumers,” Fernandez-Kelty said. “This is a great example of our efforts not just to fill space, but to fill space with the right tenant — one that complements its co-tenancy and adds to a property’s dynamic.”
With the long-term Burlington commitment, LMC said the Somerville Circle Shopping Center is near full occupancy, with just one 3,000-square-foot availability remaining.
