Alex Narcise was unequivocal when asked to share his favorite part of Wiss’ office in Florham Park. His answer — the majestic staircase connecting its two floors — was also ironic, considering it’s one of the newest additions to an office that’s more than five years old. But it speaks to just how far the firm has come from its days as a traditional accounting practice. It was only last fall that the company unveiled the staircase at 100 Campus Drive, which it needed after leasing additional space for its fast-growing advisory practice that provides services such as outsourced bookkeeping, recruiting and consulting to clients on how to automate their internal accounting functions.
As you’ll read in this month’s cover story, Wiss’ physical expansion in recent years has largely coincided with the trajectory of its business. The firm has more than doubled its footprint from its former longtime home in Livingston, now occupying 70,000 square feet in Florham Park for a team of about 325. That’s an increase of more than 60 percent since late 2019, much of it stemming from the service lines that have become additive to its clients, which include many of New Jersey’s best-known developers and property owners.
The office — including the all-important staircase — also serves as an important marketing tool for both clients and prospective employees.
“In the other place, we said all the right words, but the space didn’t match where we were headed as a firm,” said Narcise, partner-in-charge of Wiss’ real estate and construction services group. “So the move couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
Our May issue also revisits New Jersey’s landmark community solar program, which has created not only new revenue streams for warehouse owners and solar developers, but a source of common ground for commercial real estate and environmental leaders. That partnership was in full view recently as state regulators renewed their support for the policy with a newly approved third phase. That will allow additional commercial property owners to make their buildings available to firms that build rooftop solar panels and sell power directly to the grid, bringing clean energy and cost savings to thousands more New Jersey residents.
You can find those stories and more in our latest edition, which includes coverage of a construction milestone for one of the state’s highest-profile transit-oriented developments. The facility, Hackensack Meridian Health’s new headquarters and medical office building in Woodbridge, is on track to open this fall after a topping-out ceremony in early April. It was a welcome sign at the busy Metropark train station, where the nearly 245,000-square-foot facility is rising under the project by Russo Development, Onyx Equities and Dinallo Development and will bring a host of primary and specialty care services to one of the state’s busiest mass transit hubs. Beyond that, we’re thrilled to bring you our Professional Spotlight on Top Lenders and Mortgage Bankers as the latest edition of this special advertising section.
Until then, thanks for reading. Enjoy the issue!
