H Mart has opened the doors to a new 25,000-square-foot supermarket on Route 17 in Paramus, its first in the borough and its latest in Bergen County.
Property owner Advance Realty unveiled the new store recently during a ceremony at 60 Route 17 North, where H Mart joins DSW and PetSmart. The upscale grocer, which specializes in both traditional Asian and international foods, has backfilled a former Staples location and is likely to benefit from the busy highway location adjacent to the Westfield Garden State Plaza.
“H Mart brings a new dynamic to Paramus, which is among the region’s premier shopping destinations,” said Jared Minatelli, Advance Realty’s director of asset management. “The supermarket operates extremely successful locations throughout the state, and we expect the concept to thrive at 60 Route 17 North, which consistently captures a high volume of retail traffic.”

The Goldstein Group arranged the lease for the location, which is H Mart’s eighth in New Jersey and seventh in Bergen County. The fast-growing chain, which is headquartered in Lyndhurst, operates more than 90 stores nationwide.
“With the closing of A&P and Pathmark in New Jersey, numerous supermarket chains are jumping at the opportunities to enter or expand into the lucrative (New Jersey) market,” said Chuck Lanyard, president of the Paramus-based brokerage. “H Mart was a prime candidate to take advantage of this excellent and highly desirable Paramus location.”
Advance Realty acquired the property in 2015 as part of a 244,000-square-foot retail portfolio made up of two properties and four buildings, according to a news release. The other property, 289-315 Route 17 South, features 169,200 square feet and is home to a PGA Tour Superstore and P.C. Richard & Son, along with 46,000 square feet of redeveloped retail space that is currently under construction.
