It’s always exciting when NAIOP New Jersey unveils the honorees at its annual gala, a must-attend event in the state’s commercial real estate industry. Slated for later in the calendar, on Oct. 7, in hopes that we can all actually gather in person, this year’s program is headlined by Peter D. Sudler of Sudler Cos. and the talented team at Gensler, who will receive the association’s Impact Awards.
I’m also humbled to report another piece of news about the event — namely, that NAIOP has graciously included me in this year’s group by way of its Industry Service Award. To say I’m flattered is an understatement and, needless to say, I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at NAIOP New Jersey who thought to recognize what we’ve done here at Real Estate NJ.
This year’s honorees will also include state Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin, who will receive the Caren S. Franzini Public Partner Award, which recognizes champions of development that inspire and transform communities.
“This year’s honorees are a remarkable group, each of whom has made tremendous contributions to the commercial real estate industry — and communities across New Jersey — in very different ways,” said NAIOP New Jersey President Gus Milano, president and chief operating officer of Hartz Mountain Industries. “We look forward to bringing our members together to celebrate them on October 7.”
The gala, which was held virtually last year due to the pandemic, typically draws more than 800 commercial and industrial real estate professionals. NAIOP New Jersey said this year’s event at The Palace at Somerset Park will be held in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time, while it is encouraging everyone to be fully vaccinated before attending.
The members-only gala ticket presale is open now through June 18, the association said. Ticket sales will open to the public on June 21 unless the event is sold out. As of now, purchases will be limited to eight tickets.

In addition to the commercial real estate awards, the 34th annual gala will include the presentation of the coveted Deal of the Year awards. NAIOP New Jersey is now accepting entries for the competition, which must include a commercial real estate component and at least one principal partner who is a chapter member in good standing.
Deals must also have been substantially completed by December 31, 2020, the association said, noting that the size of the deal is not as important as its creativity, complexity and impact on the community. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021, and finalists will make presentations to the judges on June 4, 2021.
