Attendees at a recent Morristown planning board meeting were offered a virtual tour of where a developer hopes to build a new 117-unit hotel — thanks to a 3D animation produced by the project’s architect.
The animation, which shows the seven-story boutique hotel at Market and Bank streets, was captured in a video posted on the hyperlocal news website Morristown Green. In the video, representatives for developer Sunstone Hotels LLC can be heard explaining the project’s features as the animation seemingly glides through the neighborhood and shows the proposed building from different vantage points.
The new hotel would be Morristown’s first in more than 35 years, according to the report by Morristown Green. At last Thursday’s meeting, an executive with the hotel operator detailed a market analysis that projects 70 percent occupancy, 70 percent of which would come from weekday corporate customers.

The development team is seeking several variances and is slated to return to the planning board next month. Architect Scott Rosenberg faced several questions from board members, which were captured in the video by Morristown Green’s Kevin Coughlin.
