Atkins Cos. has completed a highly touted, multimillion-dollar update of a 77,000-square-foot medical office building near a major hospital in Washington Township.
The firm, which acquired the property last year, said its work at 405 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road included the conversion of a former fitness center on the first floor into 33,000 square feet of clinical medical space. In addition, Atkins created 7,700 square feet of leasable area by filling in the former two-story portion of the fitness center.
The new spaces came alongside major upgrades to the building’s common areas on both floors with new lighting, ceilings, flooring, paint and wallcovering, furniture, artwork and plantings, as well as new interior digital building directories, according to a news release. New common area restrooms and the remodeling of the building’s existing restrooms capped off the interior improvements.
“Southern New Jersey’s consistent population growth has created an increased need for advanced community-based health care facilities,” said Cory Atkins, principal of West Orange-based Atkins Cos. “Through this project, we have transformed the Washington Medical Arts building into an ultramodern space that meets the needs of today’s health care providers.”
The two-story building is steps from Jefferson Washington Township Hospital and in the township’s growing medical corridor, Atkins said, prompting the investment and upgrades that also included new building signage and a new monument sign, the addition of an ADA-compliant front entry ramp and an enhanced door access and security system. The firm added that Washington Township, the largest municipality in Gloucester County, has grown into a hub for many of the region’s expanding health care networks including Cooper University Healthcare, Penn Medicine, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine and Virtua Health.
