A food company has acquired a 62,000-square-foot industrial building in Perth Amboy as part of a plan to relocate from Brooklyn, brokers with Bussel Realty Corp. announced.
The company, Gourmet Nut, paid $4.6 million for the property at 144 Grant St. The manufacturer and distributor of nuts, dried fruits and trail mixes is now set to make the move, thanks in large part to a previously announced 10-year, $12.1 million tax credit under the Grow New Jersey program.
BRC Senior Vice President Leo Esses represented Gourmet Nut in the purchase from Riverview Management LLC.
“The company expects to create 100 new jobs,” Esses said, noting that 144 Grant St. is near Exit 10 of the New Jersey Turnpike and provides easy access to Staten Island and Brooklyn via the Outerbridge Crossing. The property was built in 2017 and features 32-foot ceiling heights, eight tailboards and 50 free surface parking spaces.
The state Economic Development Authority approved the tax credit last fall, noting that Gourmet Nut was considering a competing location in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The company was seeking to increase cost-effectiveness and expand into other retail channels, with plans to invest more than $6.4 million overall if it picked New Jersey.
