The Otteau Group Inc. has hired longtime appraiser and real estate industry veteran Jon Brody as a senior managing director with its Matawan-based team.
Brody, who founded Appraisal Consultants Corp. in 1983 and spent 30 years with the firm, will continue to serve his clients in his new role, according to a news release. Otteau Group noted that he has personally written and testified on a host of narrative reports on real property valuation, markets and studies on a wide range of topics for both private clients and municipalities, having participated in more than 100 cases in the Superior Courts of New Jersey, many of which were high-profile proceedings resulting in landmark decisions.
In addition to litigation and testifying, Brody has lectured on real estate matters.
“We are excited to have someone like Jon join our firm,” said Jeffrey Otteau, managing partner and chief economist of Otteau Group. “He is one of the best litigation appraisers and will drive the growth of our litigation division.”
Brody holds the prestigious MAI and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute as well as the CRE designation from the Counselors of Real Estate, the news release said. The former Appraisal Consultants Corp. president has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Metro New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and served as past president of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers’ North Jersey Chapter and past president of chapter No. 1 of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers.
In addition, Brody was a certified instructor for the Appraisal Institute for more than 20 years, specializing in teaching Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, a course focusing on the ethical and technical obligations of an appraiser.
