Leasing is underway at a new 135-unit luxury apartment building in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood, where local officials recently joined the project team for a soft launch event.
Known as Iron 65, the project at 65 McWhorter St. has opened on a previously vacant site less than a half-mile from Newark Penn Station. It’s also part of an infusion of new housing to the popular neighborhood, renowned for its vibrant Portuguese-speaking community, as officials touted last week during a gathering on the building’s rooftop.
“Take a look around. In 10 years, the Ironbound will be completely different,” East Ward Councilman Michael Silva said. “What was once a neglected space is now home to one of the city’s most beautiful buildings. This is the result of the collective efforts of Sterling Developers, Bridgewater Capital Partners, New Rock Developers and Signature Realty and showcases the growing appeal of Newark and the Ironbound as prime living destinations. I am incredibly proud of our community.”

Murphy Schiller & Wilkes LLP worked on the developer’s behalf to obtain land use approvals for the project’s final phase. Signature Realty is spearheading leasing at the property, located between Hamilton and Lafayette streets, where renters will have access to amenities such as a high-end fitness center, a yoga studio, wet and dry saunas and work-from-home spaces.
They’re also steps from the Ironbound’s vast selection of culinary and entertainment offerings.
“With exceptional amenities such as a rooftop wellness center, spa, gym, sauna and various workshops, we offer a lifestyle that’s unmatched,” said Signature Realty’s Eliane Longhi, who leads the leasing team alongside Ana Caetano. “Conveniently located just minutes from Penn Station and only 20 minutes from NYC, we provide New York-style luxury at a fraction of the cost.”
Those on hand for the Oct. 24 event also included Newark Deputy Mayor Lígia de Freitas and consultant Albert Coutinho.
“We anticipate that Iron 65 will be fully rented in no time, thanks to its outstanding amenities and privileged location in the culturally vibrant and diverse Ironbound neighborhood,” Caetano added.
