The Commercial Real Estate Development Association’s New Jersey chapter returned last week to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside, allowing industry leaders to volunteer in support of the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization.
According to CREDA NJ, nearly 90 people took part in the association’s annual Community Action Food Drive & Volunteer Day. That included a morning shift in which participants packed 1,080 USDA Summer Food Service Program meal kits, along with 420 boxes for seniors, and an afternoon shift in which they packed 1,746 bags of pasta and prepared 360 pounds of chicken.
The work of CREDA and its volunteers, which included staff, members and colleagues, supported an average of more than 18,000 meals throughout the course of the day, the group said in a news release. And, according to CFBNJ, those working the morning and afternoon shifts combined for over 200 hours worked.
In addition to hosting the volunteer day, CREDA NJ pledged to donate $5,000 to CFBNJ.
“We are very grateful for the work that CFBNJ does for families in our communities, and we thank them for having us again this year,” said Dan Kennedy, the chapter’s CEO. “This experience is always a meaningful opportunity to step up and make a real difference for our neighbors throughout New Jersey. We were so glad to see so many people come out and volunteer their time.”
A member of Feeding America, CFBNJ works to end hunger by distributing food to more than 800 community partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other feeding programs, according to a news release. The organization distributes over 90 million nutritious meals annually.
