A cannabis manufacturer and cultivator has tapped DIGroup Architecture to plan and design a new 75,000-square-foot facility in Bridgeton.
Based in New Brunswick, the practice said it’s working on behalf of Blu Elements Ventures in connection with the project, the address of which was not disclosed. When completed, the facility will be among the largest new construction, indoor growing facilities in New Jersey and the first of its kind in the Cumberland County city.
DIGroup Architecture, which will serve as the architect of record, is working with The Norwood Co. to develop the design-build project. The assignment marks an expansion for DIG — which is long established in the health care, senior living, community and civic and academic sectors — and follows New Jersey’s legalization of recreational marijuana in early 2021.
The firm said it now expects to see a growing pipeline of projects for dispensary, manufacturing and cultivation facilities.
“Adaptability in architecture and design is vital,” said Vincent Myers, president of DIGroup Architecture. “And dipping our toes in the cannabis space provides an opportunity to showcase our nimbleness, understand the needs of this burgeoning industry, and implement the expertise of our team to deliver a space that satisfies the needs of the client in a sustainable, responsible, creative and effective way that serves the community — which, at the end of the day, is our ultimate goal no matter the industry.”
