The New Jersey State Bar Association has appointed Genova Burns LLC attorney Kenneth Sheehan as co-chair of its Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Climate Change Committee.
Sheehan, who focuses on energy and utility law, will serve for the 2024-2025 term as he draws on more than two decades of experience in the field. Newark-based Genova Burns said he has advised public and private clients on a wide range of issues including regulatory compliance, project development and financing for renewable energy projects, with expertise that touches solar, wind, hydroelectric and other clean energy technologies.
With the latest NJSBA appointment, he’ll help lead efforts to promote the development and implementation of policies and practices that support renewable energy, cleantech innovations and climate change mitigation.
“We are thrilled to see Ken’s dedication and expertise recognized by the NJSBA,” said Angelo J. Genova, chairman and managing partner of Genova Burns. “His leadership in the Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Climate Change Committee will undoubtedly contribute to meaningful advancements in these critical areas.”
In a news release, Genova said the appointment reflects Sheehan’s extensive experience and dedication to advancing renewable energy and environmental law. Before joining the firm, he helped shape energy policies and regulations in several high-profile positions, including chief counsel and director of the Office of Clean Energy for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
The appointment comes as the legal profession and public-service sectors are increasingly called upon to address the challenges posed by climate change, Genova said.
“I am honored to accept this appointment and look forward to working alongside my colleagues to further the goals of the state, the NJSBA and the need for a sustainable energy future,” Sheehan said.
