How WiredScore works
Arie Barendrecht, the WiredScore CEO, said landlords that are seeking Wired Certification can expect a visit from a telecommunications engineer, who will spend several hours on site collecting data and making detailed notes about the digital infrastructure of the building.
Those notes can encompass things such as which internet service providers have cables into the building and how easily tenants can access those connections.
“We then synthesize that information and go back to the building owner and give them a preliminary report of their building’s preliminary connectivity,” Barendrecht said. “So we explain what they have in the building and how that measures up against our standard — whether they qualify for Wired Certification or not — as well as provide recommendations for improvement.”
Barendrecht said the group will explain how the building owner can meet the criteria or upgrade to a higher level — for instance, from silver to gold — before finalizing the certification and allowing the landlord to tout the achievement in its marketing efforts.
The process is similar for new construction, he said.
“For a new development, we will do the same thing,” Barendrecht said. “But instead of sending an engineer to visit a building and walk through it for half a day, we dig into the building’s construction plans and schematics to evaluate the telecom infrastructure as it’s depicted down on paper in the building design.”
