A luxury apartment brand’s debut in Newark is officially underway with the launch of leasing at the site of a newly restored and expanded tower in the city’s downtown.
Its developers, Urby and LMXD, are now marketing the collection of 250 rental homes as part of the mixed-use project at 155 Washington St. Monthly rents start at $2,035, with immediate occupancy available at a location adjacent to Rutgers-Newark and supported by amenities such as a rooftop terrace, a large fitness area and a fully serviced resident co-working area.
“We are thrilled to begin leasing at Newark Urby which will be a fantastic residential complement to the thriving, cultural hub of Newark,” said David Barry, founder and CEO of Urby. “We look forward to connecting with the city’s energy and spirit while contributing thoughtful design and engaging experiences to our residents.”
The collection of homes ranging from studio to three-bedroom units occupies a historic but newly modernized, 18-story Art Deco tower, according to a news release. The developers and the Amsterdam-based architect Concrete have preserved the original design elements, creating what they described as a blend of 1920s-era architectural charm and contemporary finishes and functionality.
They added that the rooftop terrace has grills, while the fitness space has a yoga studio. The building will also include roughly 4,000 square feet of neighborhood retail highlighted by a café, as well as a 4,000-square foot Rutgers-Newark welcome center.
Residents also have access to technology systems such as Latch keyless smart phone entry and Amazon package lockers.
“Newark Urby offers an unparalleled living experience, from its innovative design to high quality finishes and top-flight amenities,” said Sam Chapin, managing director at LMXD, an affiliate of L+M Development Partners. “Located right in the heart of transit-rich downtown Newark, residents will also have direct access to regional rail service and the neighborhood’s lively and expanding cultural scene. We are excited to welcome residents to one of Newark’s most highly anticipated apartment buildings.”
Newark Urby sits across the street from Rutgers-Newark and blocks from light rail service and NJ Transit’s Broad Street Station. It’s also a short walk from Newark Penn Station and blocks from both Military Park and Harriet Tubman Square.
