The nation’s largest specialty cake company is expanding to Woodbridge with a new lease at a 343,000-square-foot highway shopping center, in a deal secured by Levin Management Corp.
The operator, Nothing Bundt Cakes, is taking 1,500 square feet at the grocery-anchored St. Georges Crossing at the nexus of Route 1&9 and Route 35. The deal brings a new retail category to a property that LMC said draws 4.3 million visitors per year, citing real-time traffic data from Placer.ai, positioning it as the No. 1-most-visited shopping center in the local market and the seventh-most-visited in New Jersey ahead of 97 percent of such properties in the state.
LMC Senior Leasing Representative E.J. Moawad represented the landlord, while Jamie Sackeim of The Shopping Center Group represented the tenant.
“Bakery chains and other dessert-inspired concepts are increasingly popular with today’s consumers,” Moawad said. “Within that segment, Nothing Bundt Cakes is a great addition to St. Georges Crossing. This chain brings something completely new and different to the property, and undoubtedly will be a tremendous draw.”
Founded in 1997, Dallas-based Nothing Bundt Cakes has locations in more than 40 states and Canada, LMC said in a news release. The chain recently opened its 600th bakery with plans to reach 1,000 locations by 2027.
LMC noted that Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Woodbridge location will sell handcrafted bundt cakes in a variety of flavors and sizes, including eight- and 10-inch bundt cakes, personal-sized Bundtlets and cupcake-sized Bundtinis, according to Hansraj Agrawal, a well-established restaurant business operator and owner of the St. Georges Crossing shop. Nothing Bundt Cakes also sells retail items including party supplies, décor and gifts.
The lease marks LMC’s second transaction with the fast-growing chain.
“There’s nothing else quite like Nothing Bundt Cakes,” Agrawal said. “We are very excited to introduce this unique bakery concept to the community and are committed to bringing great cakes — along with an exceptional customer service experience – to our guests.”
Anchored by a high-volume ShopRite, St. Georges Crossing is also home to tenants such as T.J.Maxx, Pet Smart, West Marine, KPOT Korean BBQ and a Hot Pot eatery that’s coming soon. Other tenants include Ulta Beauty, AutoZone and House of Wine & Liquor, among others, all of which serve a growing residential population of more than 362,000 and a daytime population of 221,000 within a five-mile radius.
LMC is marketing a 38,500-square-foot availability at St. Georges Crossing.
